Here is a story for intermediate English learners.
Title: The Lost Dog
Once upon a time, there was a small town named Greenhill. In the heart of Greenhill lived a kind-hearted man named Tom. Tom was known by everyone in the town, not because he was a wealthy man or a powerful man, but because of his loyal dog, Max.
Max was not just a dog to Tom, he was his best friend and his only family. Tom had found Max in a box, abandoned near a park when he was just a puppy. He brought Max home and since that day, they were inseparable.
One day, while Tom was at work, Max saw a squirrel through the window and chased after it. He ran and ran until he was completely lost. He looked around, but everything seemed strange and unfamiliar.
Back home, Tom was getting worried. Max had never been gone this long. He started looking for Max all over the town. He asked his neighbors, the shopkeepers, and even the children playing in the park, but nobody had seen Max.
Feeling helpless and worried, Tom posted flyers around the town, hoping someone would find Max and bring him home. Days turned into weeks, but there was no sign of Max. Tom was devastated.
Meanwhile, Max was taken in by a kind woman named Lucy who lived on the outskirts of Greenhill. Lucy noticed the flyer while she was in town one day and realized that the dog she had been caring for was Max.
She immediately contacted Tom and gave him the good news. Tom was overjoyed and rushed to Lucy’s house. The moment Max saw Tom, he wagged his tail and ran towards him. It was a joyful reunion.
After thanking Lucy, Tom and Max headed home. From that day on, Tom made sure that the doors and windows were always closed when he went to work. And Max never chased after squirrels again.
The End.
